“Can We Do More Sit-Ups to Shrink My Stomach?”

A question I hear all the time - and I totally get why.

It’s tempting to think that if we just work hard enough on one area of the body, we’ll see fat disappear there.

More crunches = flatter stomach, right?

Unfortunately, our bodies don’t quite work that way.

Let’s Clear It Up 👇

❌ You can’t spot reduce fat.

Doing more sit-ups won’t specifically burn fat off your stomach - just like doing endless tricep dips won’t target the back of your arms.

Fat loss happens all over the body based on your genetics, hormones, and lifestyle - not where you feel the “burn.”

✅ Fat loss comes from a

calorie deficit.

This means your body is consistently burning more energy than it’s taking in - through a mix of:

  • Regular movement

  • Eating well (not less, but smarter!)

  • Quality sleep

  • Stress management

Sit-ups don’t burn many calories. So if your goal is to reduce body fat and shrink your waist, nutrition and overall lifestyle are where the magic happens.

💡 But don’t skip the core work!

Strengthening your abs is still super valuable. It:

  • Supports better posture

  • Protects your spine

  • Improves performance in everything from lifting weights to running

It just won’t “burn belly fat” on its own.

The Bottom Line.

If your goal is to see more shape around your waist or flatten your stomach, focus on your overall routine - especially food, recovery, and consistency.

And remember: your body doesn’t need to be punished - it needs to be supported.

Ready to Focus on the Part That Really Moves the Needle?

If you’ve been smashing workouts but feel stuck when it comes to food - you’re not alone. Nutrition is the missing link for so many people who want to feel leaner, stronger, and more in control of their results.

✨ I’m working on launching an online nutrition coaching option soon - designed to help you build sustainable habits, eat with confidence, and finally see the progress your workouts deserve.
