A question I have had a few times is “Should men do Yoga?” Which I always reply as absolutely, it doesn’t matter who you are or what gender you are Yoga will benefit you in so many ways physically and mentally.
Whether you want to work on your flexibility, strength, balance or your mind muscle connection to your breathing you really can improve your whole body by including a yoga class to your life. If you train hard it is amazing to aid your recovery and give your muscles and joints the extra work they need, this will help you come back stronger and be less susceptible to getting injured.
Helena takes our weekly yoga class on a Wednesday and she said the following:
“As a yoga teacher I have seen first hand how powerful yoga can be for everyone - regardless of gender. Here’s why I think every man should roll out their mat and start practicing yoga!
Increase strength, yoga is not just about flexibility, it builds muscle, stability and resilience on all your muscles including the ones you don’t work out in the gym. Such as your deep internal muscles like your transverse abdominis and inner obliques. Which help strengthen and support your internal organs.
However for me I think the most powerful benefit of yoga is it’s ability to help reduce and navigate stress in a stressful world. Stress is one of the biggest contributions to diseases. And yoga’s combination of mindful breathing, meditation and physical postures activates your parasympathetic nervous system - the bodies natural relaxation response, which lowers blood pressure, heart rate and cortisol levels and therefore stress.
Incorporating yoga into your routine will lead to a healthier and more balanced life it will enhance your overall physical and mental well-being, and therefore you will be happier!!!”
We also have extra classes being added to the schedule from March so a great time to come down to try it or add it into your week as the season changes. It is a great way to feel better in your body and mind as we come out of the winter months.
